STK Ta Bay! A Journey in Cebu Food, Culture and History

"Part of the secret of a success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside." Mark Twain

One of my favorite restaurants in Cebu is STK Ta Bay! located in Orchid St., Capitol Site, Cebu City. This particular street is well-known for houses that were converted into restaurants. And when I went back to the restaurant this year (2014), they had some major renovation that adds to the convenience and comfort of its guests.

The restaurant features Filipino dishes like Grilled Tuna Panga, Seafood Caldereta, Halabos Shrimp, crabs cooked in various ways. I love the crab dishes the most. Simple food but delicious and won't hurt your pocketbook. The restaurant serves as a mini-museum as well since it has tons of memorabilia and collectibles that visitors and patrons can see throughout the place.

The service is good and the food is prepared within a reasonable amount of time. They’re open for lunch and dinner. There might be times that you might need to call them for a reservation especially during weekends and holidays.

Good news to STK Ta Bay! diners, they expanded! Yes, STK Ta Bay! is now bigger and can accommodate more customers. They bought the former place of Kuya J's which is just across the street from their restaurant. The interior is much better since it's new. But their menu still contains their delicious and yummy food.

Just make sure that you bring along a dash of patience especially during the lunch and dinner rush hours.

Being in this place reminds me of that shop in SM Megamall that used to sell old magazines, newspapers and other vintage items. I can’t remember the name of the shop but I love going there since it quenches my curiosity of vintage items.

When I was in the States, I wanted to experience a Sunday Market or a Flea Market where I heard stories where people were able to buy unusual and valuable items. I remember reading that there was a Filipino Doctor who was able to buy the original Execution photo of Dr. Jose Rizal. It was an amazing find.

STK Ta Bay! had a similar feeling to these places. A sense of quaintness and an old-world charm permeates the air. It adds to your gastronomic experience.

You'll never regret visiting this restaurant and enjoying a very satisfying meal. The food is super delicious as well as very affordable. You'll get a lot from your peso in STK Ta Bay!
