Being a proud product of the University of the Philippines Educational System, The Visual Traveler is happy to partner with UP Cookout 2017 in Cebu. This year's theme is all about Guns N' Roses, the focus being on the different types of violence that is prevalent today's society.

The UP Cookout which will be held at the Lahug Campus will be a night full of fun and social relevance. The annual event is famous for it's from dusk 'til dawn festivity. Don't miss out on the biggest event in UP Cebu this November 10!

It is admirable that young citizens of the Philippines are expressing their thoughts and feelings in a peaceful manner. Social justice is for everyone. Every Filipino deserves to live in a community that espouses fairness, security, and a sense of togetherness.

“UP Cookout 2017 remains steadfast in its nature of being a protest,” Overall Director Fae Toabi said. “It is a platform for the audience to start discussions on socially relevant national issues.”

For its first-ever installation in Cebu, Coke Studio Philippines will bring in nationally acclaimed hip-hop artist Abra. He is known for his rap songs that speak of social issues such as Isang Ilusyon, Dedma, and ‘King Inang Bayan.

Rock superband Franco is also set to take the stage, along with performances from homegrown talents such as Wonggoys, Thinking Chair, Groovematics, Coolie Dreads and the Microphone Commander, and Silingan ni Felicity.

Cookout highlights UP talents in five segments: Kantahan, Sayawan, Bandahan, Rampahan and Panulaan. with the subthemes “Voices of Protest”, “Dance in Defiance of Terror”, “Sounds of Resistance”, “Staging a Revolution”, and “Cries of the Voiceless” respectively.

The newly introduced segment, Panulaan, urges people to “use our voices when we are silenced by fear.”

“We want to raise the social issue UP Cookout 2017 brings through the performances of our very own UP students, as a medium to connect and communicate with the community at large,” Toabi added.
